Who will win the Snow Queen Trophy at Bärenberg?

When the men run a Snow Queen Trophy, it sounds a bit strange at first, but the men’s slalom on the Bärenberg was named in honour of the great Janica Kostelic. Almost traditionally, this race is the first slalom of the World Cup season in the new year. Six different athletes stood on the podium in the two previous winter slalom runs.

It is therefore difficult to make the right forecast for the men’s slalom in Zagreb. There are numerous favourites. Well-known bookmakers offer the lowest prices on Henrik Kristoffersen, last year’s winner Clement Noel and Ramon Zenhäusern. However, there are six other drivers whose odds are a maximum of 15.00.

The tested betting providers are therefore not really sure in which direction the race on Wednesday will go. Maybe the Norwegian Kristoffersen and the Swiss Zenhäusern are the hottest irons in the field because those two have each won a slalom this winter. It may therefore make sense to place bets on a victory for one of these two athletes in the men’s slalom in Zagreb.

Winner list of men’s slalom in Zagreb:
January 5th, 2020: 1. 🇫🇷 Noel 2. 🇨🇭 Zenhäusern 3. 🇮🇹 Vinatzer
January 6th, 2019: 1. 🇦🇹 Hirscher 2. France Pinturault 3. 🇦🇹 Feller
04.01.2018: 1. 🇦🇹 Hirscher 2. 🇦🇹 Matt 3. 🇳🇴 Kristoffersen
05.01.2017: 1. 🇮🇹 Mölgg 2. 🇩🇪 Neureuther 3. 🇳🇴 Kristoffersen
01/06/2015: 1. 🇦🇹 Hirscher 2. 🇩🇪 Neureuther 3. 🇳🇴 Foss-Solevag

Above all, the Austrians around Manuel Feller and Marco Schwarz will have something against a renewed victory of the competition on the Bärenberg. The Swiss Daniel Yule would also be at least a candidate for the podium, which should also apply to Alex Vinatzer from Italy or the Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solevag.

The favourites in the men’s slalom in Zagreb on January 6th, 2021

🇳🇴 Henrik Kristoffersen

Position in the Slalom World Cup 2020/21: 1.
Position in the overall World Cup 2020/21: 4th.

Actually, Henrik Kristoffersen’s goal is to win the overall World Cup. On the other hand, the Norwegian cannot allow himself any weaknesses in slalom, which is his speciality. With a win and a clear distancing of World Cup leader Alexis Pinturault, the Norwegian could make up a lot of ground on Wednesday.

Kristoffersen am Bärenberg still without a win

The Norwegian has celebrated 18 world cup victories in slalom to date. However, he has not yet succeeded on the Bärenberg. In Zagreb, however, Henrik Kristoffersen has already made it onto the podium twice. In 2017 and 2018 he was third. So it makes sense at least to check the odds on a podium for the Norwegian in the men’s slalom in Zagreb.

Henrik Kristoffersen has done really well in the two slaloms so far this winter. Sixth place in Alta Badia could still be improved, but then he won the prestigious goal run in Madonna di Campiglio. At least the 26-year-old started the new year with a good feeling and it remains to be seen whether he can now benefit from his victory in Madonna in Zagreb.

🇦🇹 Manuel Feller

Position in the Slalom World Cup 2020/21: 2.
Position in the overall World Cup 2020/21: 23.

After Henrik Kristoffersen, Manuel Feller is the second most successful slalom driver of the current winter. Second place in Alta Badia and fourth place in Madonna di Campiglio put the Austrian in second place in the discipline ranking. So you have to have the 28-year-old vice world champion from 2017 on your radar when it comes to victory in Zagreb.

Feller still without a World Cup victory

However, there is one point that cannot be overlooked. To date, Manuel Feller has not celebrated a single World Cup victory. That is an indication that in the men’s slalom in Zagreb no bets on a victory for the Austrian should make sense. However, there are also not a few indications that the knot in the ÖSV athlete will soon burst.

Manuel Feller has already achieved presentable results on the Bärenberg. In 2018 it was fourth in Zagreb. A year later, the Austrian even landed on the podium with third place. Only in the previous year did it not achieve a good result with position twelve. Nevertheless, Manuel Feller has already proven that it can be at the forefront of the Snow Queen Trophy.

🇨🇭 Ramon Zenhäusern

Position in the Slalom World Cup 2020/21: 3rd.
Position in the overall World Cup 2020/21: 27.

For Ramon Zenhäusern, Zagreb is always worth a trip. Two years ago the Swiss man was already promisingly in the race on the Bärenberg when he lost track of the fastest time in the second section and was eliminated. Such things happen extremely rarely to top athletes, but they do happen every now and then.

Zenhäusern with victory at the start of the season

But the 28-year-old triumphed in Zagreb last winter and moved up to second place behind Clement Noel. From our point of view, Ramon Zenhäusern is one of the favorites again on Wednesday, because this winter he has already shown that he is in good shape. At the first slalom of the winter in Alta Badia, the Swiss won his second World Cup victory.

“I think Zagreb is a cool race in terms of the terrain.” – Ramon Zenhäusern

However, he could not maintain this level in Madonna di Campiglio and only made it to twelfth place there. Nevertheless, we can imagine placing a tip on a Swiss victory in the men’s slalom in Zagreb, if he finds the right goals and doesn’t get lost again in the forest of bars on the Bear Mountain.

Men’s slalom on January 6th, 2021 in Zagreb – outsiders

On the Bärenberg there are some athletes who, in addition to the best drivers in the discipline rankings, have a very good chance of winning. First and foremost there is certainly the Frenchman Clement Noel, who won in Zagreb last year. So far this season Noel can only show the fifth place from Madonna di Campiglio but was eliminated in Alta Badia in the first round.

Noel already with victory at the Bear Mountain

In addition to Ramon Zenhäusern, the Swiss have another hot topic in the fire with Daniel Yule. So far he has not been able to meet the expectations this winter, but you have to have him on the slip as well as the Austrian Marco Schwarz, who finished third in Alta Badia this winter after all.

This also applies to the Italian Alex Vinatzer, who should have expected a little more than third place in his two home races in Alta Badia and Madonna. The Italian has not yet won a World Cup race, but the 2019 junior world champion is just 21 years old. In any case, the future belongs to him and maybe even the present on Wednesday?

Prediction & betting base trend – who will win the men’s slalom in Zagreb?

How even the men’s slalom is this winter becomes clear when you look at the results of Alta Badia and Madonna die Campiglio. Six different drivers stood on the podium in both races. At least those six are eligible for victory on the Bear Mountain on Wednesday.

With Clement Noel, last year’s winner from Zagreb has not yet made it to the podium this year, but he too will have a chance of winning on Wednesday.

Key facts – men’s slalom in Zagreb – tips

Six different athletes stood on the podium in the two slaloms of the winter.
Henrik Kristoffersen has already been on the podium twice at the Bärenberg.
Manuel Feller has not yet won a World Cup.

We can imagine that there will be a three-way battle for victory. Henrik Kristoffersen has not yet won at Bärenberg but has already made it onto the podium twice. Clement Noel won last year and certainly needs a lot of attention. In the men’s slalom in Zagreb, however, we tend to allude to a victory by Ramon Zenhäusern, who already demonstrated his class in Zagreb, but also this winter.
