Despite losing all three points at home to Wolves three times since December 2018, Spurs have had no shortage of success at Wolverhampton, forging a seven-game unbeaten run against this away opposition in all competitions (G5, E2). Despite being assured of a top-four finish for at least one more round regardless of the result here, Tottenham have revealed some vulnerabilities in recent weeks as their busy schedule takes its toll.
Four ‘clean sheets’ wins in their last five PL games will be plenty of motivation for stand-in manager Cristian Stellini to help his side bounce back from a midweek FA Cup exit at the hands of Sheffield United (1-0), a result for which he publicly apologized. Stellini blamed a lack of “energy” for that result which, along with Spurs’ last away clash in the PL (4-1 defeat at home to Leicester City), leaves them on the brink of another trophyless season.
Players to watch: Wolves striker Raul Jimenez has scored in four of his seven appearances against Spurs, and the team won three of those clashes. Spurs captain Harry Kane played only a small role during the week, but looks set to return to the starting XI against a Wolves team he has scored against in three of his team’s last four official victories.
