Graham Potter remains in place at Chelsea despite another week without a win or goal. A miserable 2-0 loss to Tottenham the previous matchday was made worse by losing star defender Thiago Silva to injury, and means the Blues finished February with just one goal scored all month (E2, P3).
Potter mentions that he “can see the desire of his players to turn things around,” but that’s not going to happen if he can’t solve their offensive problems as they have scored just six times in all competitions since Nov. 6. That contributes to a six-game winless streak (E3, P3), and it would be history should that streak be extended, as a seventh winless appearance would be their longest such run since 1994/95.

While Leeds’ league position might suggest they are the ideal opponent to end that run, the Yorkshire side are fighting for relegation from the Premier League (PL). Javi Gracia’s side emerged victorious from an important game against Southampton in their previous league match, which moved them to within a point of the relegation zone, but the Spaniard tasted defeat in his second game in charge as Leeds were eliminated from the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-0 loss to Fulham.

Gracia mentioned that his team was “unlucky” in that capacity but there is no time for regrets as he attempts to guide Leeds to their second away win in this PL season (G1, E3, P8). The Whites are tied for the fewest points in that capacity, but that away league win came against Liverpool, so they won’t be in awe of facing a member of the “Big Six” – especially since they are also the only team to have taken points against Manchester United at Old Trafford since October.

Players to watch: If Chelsea want to get back to scoring, Joao Felix appears to be the man they are looking for, as he averages 2.29 shots on target per 90 minutes, more than any other Blues player. Leeds’ Jack Harrison could again be their attacking benchmark, as he scored and assisted in their 3-0 win over Chelsea on their visit to this venue last season.
Key Fact: There has not been a goal in the first 15 minutes in Chelsea’s home games this PL season.
