Val Gardena Men’s Downhill 12/19/2020, favourites & betting odds – Alpine Skiing

Val Gardena is ready for a spectacle

After the entire ranking was turned upside down in the first descent of the season, the question now arises whether the favourites can fight back in Val Gardena. A week ago the downhill podium was occupied by three absolute outsiders, so the top people are already under pressure at the start of the season.

Kilde was the only one of the favourites in France who made it to fourth place. You had to look in vain for names like Feuz, Paris or Jansrud in the first five.

Already in the training for the Val Gardena downhill classic it was shown that the real greats of the speed world can be expected, with the Norwegians Kilde and Jansrud, but also the Austrians Kriechmayr and Franz as hot candidates for victory.

As so often in the past, there are also numerous hot candidates for success in South Tyrol. Accordingly, you are probably better off betting on supposed outsiders at the men’s downhill in Val Gardena, because you can benefit from excellent odds here.

The historical importance of the competition on the Saslong will add the rest in terms of explosiveness on Saturday and due to the many contenders for victory you can look forward to excellent betting odds from almost all runners on the downhill in Val Gardena.

The favourites for the men’s downhill in Val Gardena on December 19, 2020

🇳🇴 Aleksander Aamodt Kilde
❄️ Position in the Downhill World Cup 2019/20: 4.

Last week the Norwegian was able to offer solid performance with a fourth place. The reigning overall World Cup winner was now in top form in the run-up to the traditional competition in Val Gardena and set the best training time on Thursday.

As far as constancy is concerned, no one can fool the reigning overall World Cup winner, as he has always been in the top 10 in the last nine downhill runs. His last downhill win was a long time ago.

Best in training with good chances

Just like a few years ago, the Norwegian seems to be getting a little in the way of the will to win. In training, Kilde is always at the forefront of converting these achievements into victories, but then he finds it surprisingly difficult.

Due to the extremely low odds, we can only advise against betting on the 28-year-old when leaving Val Gardena. The quotas are hardly worthwhile and only partially justified in view of the great competition.

🇳🇴 Kjetil Jansrud
❄️ Position in the Downhill World Cup 2019/20: 9.

The veteran in South Tyrol attracted the bookmaker’s attention primarily because of his good training performance because Jansrud’s placements only met his requirements very sporadically in recent years. Already in the first race of the season, he didn’t exactly cover himself with fame with a 20th place and the last podium place for the Norwegian was almost two years ago.

Is routine a trump card?

Sure, with his wealth of experience, the 35-year-old can really dig into his bag of tricks on the difficult Saslong and thus gain decisive advantages over his younger colleagues. However, the rate of 5.00 does not convince us in view of his results in recent years and, like his compatriot, only leaves us the recommendation to refrain from a corresponding tip when descending in Val Gardena.

🇨🇭 Beat Feuz
❄️ Position in the Downhill World Cup 2019/20: 1.

You always have to have the Swiss on your bill, because the reigning Downhill World Cup winner is undoubtedly one of the best speed riders today. As you are used to from him, he didn’t show his cards during the training runs in Val Gardena, but one can confidently speak of him as a real competitive runner because Feuz always saves the best run for the race.
Sixth at the start

🇦🇹 Vincent Kriechmayr

❄️ Position in the Downhill World Cup 2019/20: 6.

At the season opener, Kriechmayr was probably one of the top people who got the worst. After a faulty ride, he swung out in the French Alps as 41st, a result that the Upper Austrian had never seen in recent years.

He will therefore put a lot of emphasis on correcting this mistake and presented himself quite well in the training sessions during the week. However, his last downhill win was some time ago.

Now the bookmakers have it on the bill with a odds of 13.00, but competition comes primarily from within because the Austrian team is very broadly positioned in the speed disciplines. This is a real test for Kriechmayr.

🇮🇹 Dominik Paris
❄️ Position in the Downhill World Cup 2019/20: 5th

Like Feuz, the local hero also held back in the training sessions, but he too has the necessary routine to really accelerate in the race. In tenth place, Paris was at least reasonably passable at the start of the season, but of course, he would like more in front of his own audience.

The South Tyrolean in particular knows how to win at home, so last year he won both runs in Bormio. Although there is no mandatory prediction for the 31-year-old for the downhill run in Val Gardena, with a rate of 15.00 a tip on the 14-time downhill winner is an excellent option.

Alpine skiing downhill of the men in Val Gardena on December 19th, 2020 – outsider

In view of the first race of the season and the training results so far, it is clear that the favourites on Saturday will certainly not agree with each other. Strong outsiders are definitely to be expected.

Austrians on the upswing

Max Franz, who has always been on the podium in recent years, presented himself as strong as a bear in training. The bookmakers give him odds of 17.00 on his favourite route, which could be an interesting betting option.

In addition to him, in the Austrian camp, you also have to be very careful with Matthias Mayer, who is actually always good for a victory. Alongside him, Striedinger also recently drove into the limelight with an “almost win” in Val d`Isere, so you can expect a lot from the ÖSV drivers.

The Swiss are also dangerous

In addition to long-running Caviezel, who was finally able to celebrate his first World Cup victory in the Super-G last weekend, Carlo Janka is another veteran in good shape. You should also keep an eye on Urs Kryenbühl, who last made it onto the downhill podium. The confederates are therefore just as broadly positioned.

Prediction & betting base trend – who will win the men’s downhill in Val Gardena on December 19, 2020?

In view of the numerous hot candidates for success, we advise against betting on the Norwegians Kilde and Jansrud when leaving Val Gardena. Both have very low odds which, in contrast to the competition, have only slightly lower chances of success and are therefore hardly worthwhile.

We rate the veterans Paris and Feuz as particularly good betting options, who have excellent betting odds and excellent chances of winning. Both can point to numerous downhill victories and always perform well in the race. At least for a podium bet, Feuz, in particular, should be on the bill.

Key facts – Men’s Alpine Downhill Downhill in Val Gardena – Betting

⛷️ Kilde set the best time in training on Thursday
⛷️ Feuz has never been worse than sixth in the downhill in the past two years
⛷️ Like last year, Paris would like to create a home win

As an outsider tip, Max Franz should be mentioned in the first place, who showed excellent performance in training and is a proven “Val Gardena specialist”, because here he has been on the podium several times. With a win rate of 17.00, absolutely nothing is lost with a corresponding tip and, in our opinion, the chances of success are definitely higher than the betting odds.

The bottom line is that things will be really tight in the South Tyrolean Alps on Saturday because the list of contenders for victory is long. The race is only decided when the last runner has crossed the finish line, because, in Val Gardena in particular, runners with high start numbers have repeatedly been shown in the past.
