BVB farewell: will there be a Haaland transfer in 2021?
During the winter break of the 2020/21 season, Erling Haaland moved from RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund.
Even if the centre forward came to Dortmund with a lot of praise, he surpassed them in the course of his year so far.
The 20-year-old scored goals on the assembly line in the Bundesliga and Champions League. So he picked up exactly where he left off in Salzburg.
At BVB, as of December 1, he even scored more goals than he played in games.

So it’s understandable that Europe’s elite are very interested in a Haaland transfer. The strengths of Dortmund’s number 9 are, particularly in the penalty area.
When it comes to bets on the upcoming top scorer in the Bundesliga, Haaland is also at the forefront.
The only disadvantage of the Norwegian is that Robert Lewandowski is another exceptional player in the same league.
In front of the gate, however, Haaland, who is 12 years younger than him, is as freezing as the Pole. It will also develop further in the coming years. Are even the biggest Bundesliga records in danger?
Long stay in Dortmund is almost impossible
The probability is very low, as Erling Haaland will probably not play much longer at Signal-Iduna-Park.
Like most young players, the Norwegian sees Dortmund only as a stopover for bigger things. The BVB managers were also aware of this when they made the commitment.
Haaland’s notorious advisor Mino Raiola left no doubt about this attitude as early as January 2020: “He is now gradually preparing for the best level.”
Is Haaland moving to Bayern Munich?
In Germany, there would theoretically only be one club that would represent this best level. But whether Haaland will strengthen Bayern Munich is more than questionable.
As long as Robert Lewandowski shows the form that makes him the clear favourite of the world footballer, the Munich team will not call three-digit sums for a new striker.
Since Haaland will not wait two or three years for FC Bayern, and the club is known to have no good relations with Mino Raiola, there is basically no reason to remain in the German Bundesliga.
Haaland Wechsel: The dream destination is England
It has long been an open secret that the dream destination for a Haaland transfer with the player England is.
His father Alf-Inge played 181 times in the Premier League. His stations in the motherland of football were Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Manchester City. Erling himself was born in Leeds.
The Italian Raiola also stated that “the top of the football pyramid” is the Premier League: “But you have to be careful when you move there.” The time could have come in summer 2021.
Haaland transfer to Manchester United or City?
Again, the options in England would be numerous. A Haaland transfer to Manchester City or Manchester United seems particularly likely. Both clubs have the money to get Haaland out of Dortmund in 2021.
However, it is questionable to what extent the Norwegian would fit into City’s style of play, which coach Pep Guardiola recently only extended until 2023.
The young United team could be more suitable for both sides. The contract of the Uruguayan veteran Edinson Cavani expires next summer and would not have to be extended if Haaland was signed.
The problem, however, is that United has not attracted the big names for years. It is doubtful whether the upcoming world footballer candidate Haaland will be at Old Trafford. After all, after Salzburg, he could have opted for big money instead of optimal development.
Does Haaland move to Real Madrid? Probability increases
In addition to the English clubs, a Spanish club, in particular, has positioned itself.
Real Madrid would rather sign Erling Haaland, who is now playing in the premier class against Lazio, sooner rather than later. The Champions League record winner would like to use Haaland’s compatriot Martin Ödegaard to persuade the striker.
Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in summer 2018, Real has been looking for a new fixed point on the offensive. Due to many injuries, Eden Hazard has not been able to meet these expectations so far.
Since the results have also not been correct since then, Kylian Mbappé and the Haaland Transfer made it onto Real Madrid’s wish list.
While Mbappé should already be signed in summer 2021, the Madrilenians consider Haaland’s access a year later to be more realistic. The reason for this lies in the player’s BVB contract, which we will discuss in more detail in the next section.
Meanwhile, a big question is where Real Madrid would like to raise the money for both players in Corona times. There is no player to be given away in the squad who would generate a lot of income.
Real’s big adversary in Spain has an even more severe problem. That Haaland goes to FC Barcelona is ruled out from the outset, despite supposed rumours. The Catalans are deeply in debt and cannot afford an expensive transfer.
Haaland Transfer would be possible in 2022 via an exit clause
While Borussia Dortmund could still call any transfer fee for Erling Haaland in 2021, the situation changes significantly in the following year.
According to various media reports, the Norwegian can change in 2022 for the fixed transfer fee of 75 million euros.
Two years before the end of the contract in 2024, it would be almost certain that Haaland would leave BVB at the latest. The exit clause was not officially confirmed, but Hans-Joachim Watzke pointedly emphasized that there was no comparable agreement for 2021.
Our betting base prediction: where is Erling Haaland going?
We estimate a change of Erling Haaland in the summer of 2021 almost as likely as in 2022. Although the stipulated release clause of 75 million euros will not apply until 2022, Europe’s elite are already hot for the centre forward.
With both family and agents favouring England’s Premier League, there is a good chance there will be a Haaland transfer to Manchester.
The only other serious candidate is Real Madrid, but they don’t want to strike until 2022.
