Maccabi too strong for the Romanians? Find to the answer in our full betting tips below!
Since the 2012/13 season, CFR Cluj has not made it into the group stage of the premier class. The Romanians have already taken part in the qualification for the Champions League last season, but were eliminated there without singing and sounding against the Swedish representative from Malmö in the second round. This year’s qualifying began for the reigning Romanian champions in the first qualifying round – and it had it all.
Today’s Football Betting Tips CFR Cluj vs Maccabi Tel Aviv
In the qualifiers against FC Astana, Billel Omrani became a true CL hero. CFR Cluj’s goal-getter stole a hat-trick, taking his team to the next round. The Romanians had dominated the home game against FC Astana while largely dominated, but was due to the unfortunate loss from the first leg, the starting position is very bad. In the second qualifying round Maccabi Tel Aviv is now the Israeli record champion waiting for the Romanians. CFR Cluj is slightly favored against Maccabi Tel Aviv as per odds. A prediction on the home side after the happy progress in the last round and the poor results at the national level does not seem to be the best choice.
CFR Cluj – Statistics & Current Form
CFR Cluj successfully defended the title last season and won the Romanian championship one match before the end of the season. It was the fifth championship title in the last twelve years. The national dominance was reflected for the CFR Cluj last but hardly on international stage. So the Romanian representative was eliminated last season against Malmö FF in the second qualifying round and could not fight in the Europa League. Ironically, the Luxembourgish club Dudelange defeated the Romanian champion.
Preparations for the new competitive season ended in June. CFR Cluj started at the beginning of July with the Romanian Super Cup in the new season. In the match against Viitorul Constanta Cluj had to give up but beaten and thus missed the first title this season. The debut in the new league season did not really succeed the reigning champion. The 1-1 draw at home against CSMS Iasi has not been excused despite the double burden of the Champions League. Recently, Cluj boosted confidence with the 4-1 win against Clinceni for the crucial first leg of the CL against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
CL hero Omrani was saved in the league game. The 26-year-old had scored a hat-trick in his second-half performance, sending Romania into the next qualifying round. To what extent the Frenchman with Algerian roots can also shine in the home game against Maccabi remains to be seen, especially as this time he will face a much stronger defensive. The team of coach Dan Petrescu has solved the ticket for the next round with the comeback, yet the performance of his team was not convincing enough. FC Astana were always dangerous in front of goal, but the Petrescu team missed some high-profile chances. The football saying “Whoever does not do it in the front will be penalized in the back!” Would have almost come true in this case.
A significant increase in the CL first leg against Maccabi Tel Aviv is definitely in demand. Petrescu can draw from a full squad and complains no failures. If CFR Cluj beat Maccabi Tel Aviv in the home game, odds of 2.15 will be offered for that tip.

Maccabi Tel Aviv – Statistics & Current Form
Maccabi Tel Aviv have returned with the premature championship last season as a record champion. After a partly weak 2018 season, the Israeli record champions had dominated at their leisure in the most recent season and won the title eight games to go before the end of the season. Maccabi lost in the entire last season only three competitive games. In addition to the missed Europa League qualification against Sarpsborg Maccabi had to strike in the semi-finals of the Israeli State Cup against Yehuda the sails.
The rematch for the semi-final defeat was recently in the Israeli Super Cup, where Maccabi could secure the first title of the new competitive season. Thus, the dress rehearsal succeeded before the important Champions League qualification play against CFR Cluj. In preparation for the new season, Maccabi completed a total of three friendly matches, of which only the game against Sparta Rotterdam was won.
In the summer, the Israeli record champion has not significantly strengthened. With keeper Predrag Rajkovic left the backing in the box the club. Apart from the Serbian keeper, there were no serious departures to cope with. With Andre Geraldes, Eduardo Guerrero, Nick Blackman and Andreas Gianniotis four new players were brought on board. The team structure remained largely stable despite the departure of Rajkovic. To what extent the newcomers in the CL first leg get their mission times, will show on Wednesday evening. Guerrero will be unavailable due to injury, as will Atzili, Nikolic and Golasa. Maccabi Tel Aviv dominated at the national level and had the strongest offensive and defensive. If Maccabi can show the performances on the CL level, coach Ivic should expect a good starting position for the second leg in the duel against Cluj.
Expected lineup of Maccabi Tel Aviv:
↪ Gianniotis – Baltaxa, Piven, Yeini, Kandil – Glazer, Barsky – Hozez, Micha, Cohen – Schoenfeld

CFR Cluj made an impressive comeback against FC Astana and made it to the next round with a three-pack from Omrani. Looking at the whole performance, the home game of Cluj was characterized by a miserable chance exploitation, which came to the host almost expensive. A prediction in favor of the guests, however, seems to have value for the current odds.
